Variant is a first-check venture fund investing in crypto and The Ownership Economy. We take a network-driven approach to scaling operations, from sourcing new opportunities to supporting the portfolio. We also live up to our thesis that networks owned by users grow bigger, faster. Variant’s users are the founders that we back, which is why our investor base includes 100+ builders in the crypto community, including many in our portfolio, who own a piece of the fund.

We are looking for a low-ego, self-directed, efficient and empathetic go-getter that is willing to roll up their sleeves to conceive and execute community building initiatives that serve the investment process, from sourcing new opportunities to supporting portfolio projects.  Variant’s Director of Community Ownership will work closely with the investing team and help cement our position as the marquee seed fund for supporting builders at the earliest possible stages.

What is the Dir. Community Ownership at Variant Fund?

The Director of Community Ownership at Variant owns Variant’s network building activity, which helps drive our investment process from new opportunities to portfolio support. The candidate should view community building through a product-management lens, with an aim to support the investment team, portfolio, and broader builder ecosystem.If successful, Variant’s network will function as a product that users love spending time with, resulting in measurable engagement and growth.

The candidate will own self-directed initiatives from conception to completion, including:

• Managing the Variant Community Discord—a private space for builders in the portfolio and the broader ecosystem, including many who are investors in the fund 
• Plan and produce events, both physical and digital (e.g. hackathons, happy hours, workshops)
• Content marketing (e.g. NFT drops, educational courses)

The candidate will also support the investment team on initiatives that grow our network and support the portfolio, including:

• Supporting Our Network and other properties affiliated with the Variant investment team.
• Interface with some of crypto’s most knowledgeable founders and builders to help with best practices on community building as a keystone of a robust GTM strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS (NEED TO HAVES)

• 2-5 years of professional experience with demonstrated achievement in online community building
• Be a detail oriented self-starter, intellectually curious, with strong, demonstrated organizational and communication skills
• Have a passion for community building, networking, content programming and organizing virtual events such as hackathons.
• Be excited to interface with some of crypto’s most knowledgeable founders, builders, researchers, and independent analysts
• Have an appetite for collaborating with the Variant investment team on future programming
• Extreme attention to detail. 
• Able to operate independently at a high level with limited oversight. 
• Ability to communicate concisely, in writing as well as 1:1 and group settings
• High-energy, high-integrity. We need a team player that is willing to roll up their sleeves and get things done, and get them done right the first time.
• Demonstrated history of being an ‘owner.’

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (NICE TO HAVES)

• Knowledge and interest in crypto. 
• Experience as a crypto-community builder specifically

SOME OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and execute a plan to make the Variant discord server an engaging place to be for the smartest builders in the space.
• Organize and manage the Variant network to drive more engagement with talent, resulting in new investment opportunities.
• Support the portfolio with community-building best practices that drive go-to-market strategy success.
• Work with the GPs and COO to manage investor relations as pertain to Variant community members specifically.
